About Statement:

"We are an open taiko group from UCI! We are for anyone who is interesting in learning taiko or wants to see taiko!

​

Taiko is a form of ensemble Japanese drumming that focuses the visual aspects just as much as drumming itself. This unique form of drumming began in the United States in the late 1960s with the leadership of Seiichi Tanaka, who formed the first ever American taiko group- San Francisco Taiko Dojo. 

Since then, taiko has gained popularity and many groups and dojos were established in California and across the US. Though mainly heard in Japanese obon festivals, taiko performances are not unheard of in fundraiser walks, pop songs, or even weddings! 

TaiKomotion is one of these many groups and seeks to promote the learning and understanding of taiko and its culture. We are an open group, and we welcome anyone of any background or experience."
