About Statement:

"Zamana, which was founded in 2009, is the successor of UCI's competitive, intercollegiate Hindi film dance team, Sitaare. The goal of UCI Sitaare, and now UCI Zamana, is to develop teamwork, culture, creativity, and organization while entertaining audience members across the nation. The members have created a great appreciation for South Asian Culture in a diverse community. Using highly creative and unique choreography, Zamana emphasizes Bollywood elements, but also incorporates Jazz, Hip Hop, Indian classical dance, Garba, and Bhangra into their routines, making Zamana a truly diversified and exciting team.
Every year, members of this team travel to different regions of the United States in order to perform and compete in national competitions and showcase their hard work and skills. Along with having a chance to showcase all the hard work that members put in throughout the year, competitions are also a great way to meet and get to know other college students who come from different backgrounds and regions of the United States. Being subjected to this diversity allows a person to diversify their views and see how Indian culture is being incorporated with American culture throughout the years. Attending these competitions and meeting all these people is truly a humbling experience."
